Feeding Sadie Part Three

If you remember a little while ago we did a couple of posts about how hard it is to get Sadie to eat. We had some great suggestions everything from baby food to yogurt and a grain free diet to a raw diet.

We tried yogurt and she wouldn't touch it and I heard baby food isn't good for dogs because it has onion power in it.

We did a lot of reading about raw diets, and we had some concerns about bacteria and stuff and decided that it wasn't for us.
People who feed their animals a raw diet really like it though, and say that there has been a lot of improvement in their animals .

We did some reading on the grain free diet to and decided that was the diet for Sadie.
A lot of dogs that have food allergies eat a grain free diet.
A lot of dogs tend to gain weight on food filled with grains.
Grain free food uses fruits and vegetables in place of grains.
dogs are more energetic on a grain free diet.

We decided to try Taste of the Wild, but Sadie likes Evo better so that is what she is eating.
We mix a little dry food with moist food.
( our vet says that " A dog should have some dry food because it is better for their teeth.)
Sadie has been eating a mostly grain free diet for a few weeks now.
She has lost some weight, and has a lot more energy.
Momo has been eating some grain free moist kitten and cat food to, he likes Evo too.
Maxx on the other hand is very set in her ways and prefers to eat her old cat food.

The only problem is that in our area the pet stores that do have it only seem to carry one flavor of it and it is recommended that you feed all three of the flavors, so that your animal gets a more balanced diet.
Sadie doesn't like eating the same food all the time either, so we may have to order it online or at a pet store.

  1. We get a grain free diet too. We used to eat Innova Evo but the only store where we live stopped carrying it, so now we eat Orijen. We love it. Our cats also eat the Orijen.
    No soft food though.

  2. We forgot to add that when we started the grain free diet on the cats about 2 years ago, they stopped having so many hairballs and losing so much coat.

  5. I am kind of particular too. I get a bit of raw deer when dad or one of the other hunters bring one in. Butt, raw can be dangerous and I only get it on the very day the deer comes in.
Glad that you and Momo are getting along on this new diet.
I am bad about wanting milkbones and other snacks. Mom won't let me have them UNTIL I eat my supper. Sometimes it takes me until ten at night to get a "snack".

  6. Hi, Sadie!
I have been eating the same food for almost 2 years! We don't have many choices here!
Sure is great you like the one your mom is giving you now!

  9. Sadie girlfriend what is up with not eating...oh my sweet girl. We are glad to hear Mom found something you like. If you come to NC Madi will teach you all about eating!! She is the queen of meal time. Your food looks very yummy. Mom will look for some Evo for me.
Just to see if I'll eat it. Do you get it in dry and canned? Toto was a very discriminating eater sometimes too. But when he found something he liked he inhaled it. Have a good weekend,

  10. That is wonderful news that Sadie is doing well on the Evo. We started out with Taste of the Wild too but I was very concerned because it is made by Diamond which has had all those recalls. So we quickly switched to Evo. That was probably close to 2 years ago. The munchkins are little piglets anyway but they do fantastic on it. They have grain allergies so we had no choice but to have them on grain free food. I did extensive research and continue to do extensive research into dog food and nutrition. I feel it is totally up to me to put good things into my babies since the vets aren't taught proper dog nutrition in the schools. Please keep us updated on how Sadie continues to do on the Evo and if you ever have any questions I would be happy to help.

  11. EVO is wonderful food! If you are looking to try different proteins (a rotation diet), check out Before Grain canned food (by Merrick). The only ingredients are the meat and some water for processing. It is not nutritionally complete, so we only have it occasionally but it's delicious! Also, we add "The Missing Link" supplement sprinkled on our foods.

Sometimes you can get great deals on-line when they have sales and/or free shipping at places like PetFoodDirect. We always buy a case when there is free shipping.
