Wow What a Weekend

We had a great weekend.
Guess what we found in the back yard, its suppose to get a little colder this week but we don't care because we have found proof that spring is here.
Oh and more proof of spring we have also seen geese as they fly over head on their way north.

We had our usual weekend with the grandpawents and playing Jack on Saturday, but this weekend we did something a little different.
On Friday Sadie, her dad and I went to see a very close and dear friend of mine and her new little puppy.( Look how tiny she is)
The Puppy's name is Daphene and she is a four month old Chihuahua, she is suppose to have long hair but her hair hasn't grown in yet.
We already knew that us humans were friends and would get along fine because we had been friends for many years, but Sadie had never met little puppy Daphene before, so we decided that it would be best for them to meet outside on neutral ground.
And their meeting went great, Sadie now has a new little friend to play with, although we have to watch Sadie with Daphene a little more because she isn't used to being the big dog and could get a little to ruff.
Sadie said " She loved playing with little Daphene and had so much fun, but you sure do get tired chasing after a puppy."

Sadie: No Public Bathrooms for Dogs

In case you can't guess this is me, Sadie and I have a complaint about my TWO LEGGERS .

When I'm out for my walkies sometimes things happen like, you know what you put in has to come out.
And even though my two legger servants always clean it up, they try to make me wait till I get to the hole to do what a dog has to do.
I mean its not always easy to walk, check pee mail, wag your tail and be all cute and stuff when you have to make room for more treats.
And I might add I'm not the only dog that has this problem, I'm I?

In case you were wondering this is the hole.
If you are familiar with the coal mining areas you will know its a stripping hole, there is an old abandoned coal breaker and rail road tracks and the tracks are stilled used by a near by industrial park .

So I ask does it really matter if I leave a little present on the sidewalk.

Things Momo do Over the Weekend

we had weekly trip to the grandpawrents house this weekend, but Jack wasn't there, his dad had to work so they didn't come this weekend.
Even though Momo is a cat he still plays with and looks forward to spending time with Jack.

So while Sadie spent her Saturday hang out with her family and when Mo wasn't pouncing on the grandpawrent's kitten, Button, He found ways to amuse himself.
He had a lot of fun playing with a crazy bounce ball that makes a funny noise every time it moves.
Then he also though it was funny to look out the back door window with his dad when we had Sadie out side.

We had a cold rainy weekend with a lot of strong winds, so when Sadie and I where outside and with the leaves and stuff blowing in the wind, Momo thought it was really funny .

So Much to Do

We are sorry we haven't posted much lately but February has been a busy month for us.
Not that we have had anything special going on, but as Sadie puts it " Did we do something to make Mother Nature mad at us ?"
We have had a few winter storms, but from two of the storms we have had over three feet of snow and Sadie's grandparents live in a higher elevation and they have had about four feet of snow with some pretty high snow drifts so there was a lot of shoveling going on here.

But what has been keeping Sadie, Momo and Maxx so busy is that their dad and I have been sick, which meant that we were trying to rest a lot and they felt the need to cuddle a lot to make us feel better.
The good news is that all the cuddling worked and Their dad and I are stating to feel a bit better, and the snow is starting to melt too.

One thing Sadie and Maxx didn't care for other than the snow, is that February is the month that they have their annual check up at the vet's office.

Sadie went first and the vet said she is really looks good but she was due for a shot, the vet was really quick when giving her the shot and let her stand up on her back legs and give me a hug while she tried to hide her face in my hair.
Sadie said " Being held by me when she got her shot made the hole thing a little better ."

Maxx went second and is in good heath to but needed to get two shots, the vet let me hold her to when she got her shots.
Our vet was pleased to see Maxx's O.C.D. seems to be under control a bit to, although there is some signs on her belly that show she has been licking it to much, she still has a lot of fur left on it.
Usually Maxx starts to lick all the hair off her belly and back legs when the leaves start to fall off the trees and she usually get worse when she sees the snow falling.
Maxx says " She doesn't like see things falling from the sky."
But even with all the snow we have had, she still has hair on her belly, we thing having The Mo Man around is helping her with her O.C.D.
Mo says " he is happy to help."
Our vet said that usually a cat with O.C.D. doesn't do well when you bring another cat into the house, but Maxx seems to be doing better with Momo around.

The Snow

This is cousin Jack in the snow at his house yesterday morning about 7:00 in the AM.
Jack is such a trooper, he doesn't let little things like snow bother him even though he's not a fan of it either.

But then there are snow storms like the one we had yesterday, we know places to our south have been getting hammered with snow this year.
But we got over a foot of snow in our back yard and some places in our area got over 2 feet with in less that a 24 hour period, it was snowing at a rate of over two inches an hour most of the day here.

Our local news stations have dubbed this storm February Furry and at sometimes referred to it as a blizzard.

We had a lot of roads closed yesterday like interstate 81 was closed from the interstate 80 junction (which is by Jack's house) to the Maryland boarder until sometime last night,so how is a small dog suppose to get around if the humans can't even get around.
We are sure all the ski resorts in the area were happy with the snow once the roads were opened, but we are just saying when your legs are only three inches long its hard to get around and Sadie said " She doesn't know how to ski anyway but if it made it easier to get around in the snow, she would learn how to ski".

Our New Fountain

We got a new fountain because our old one stopped working and Maxx Says " Her O.C.D wouldn't allow her to drink stagnant water from a bowl, Her drinking water has to be bottle and from a fountain."

This is our third fountain in about five years, so we decided to go with a different kind of pet fountain.
The water is pumped up the middle and flows over a dome, which if your a cat, this means your whiskers don't get wet when you have a drink.

Maxx tried the new fountain out last night and said " This will do."
While Sadie said " It will take some getting use to."

Momo on the other hand says " He likes how he can drink the water from right off the dome, but he also likes to watch it and he likes to play with the water as it flows over the dome!"
We think he will stop playing with the fountain soon because his paws get wet.

Our Weekend

The weather was soooooo much better this weekend, we almost got to 45 degrees here wich is a lot warmer than the teens we have been having.
Sadie and Momo where so happy with the warmer weather that they where smiling the whole weekend.

With Momo being is such a good mood, he wanted to play some more than usual but Button (hes playmate at my parent's house) had just had surgery on Monday.
Although she had a lot of penned up energy and wanted to play, she still had stitches from whowhoectomy so the playing had to be kept to a minimum.
Sadie got her Snuggie that her grandma got her for Christmas back. ( it had to be send back because it was to big.)
Sadie said ( The Snuggie is going to be a great thing to have when she gets a bath. Instead of curling up in a blankie after her bath she can put her Snuggie on and then curl up in a blanket.)

Feeding Sadie Part Three

If you remember a little while ago we did a couple of posts about how hard it is to get Sadie to eat. We had some great suggestions everything from baby food to yogurt and a grain free diet to a raw diet.

We tried yogurt and she wouldn't touch it and I heard baby food isn't good for dogs because it has onion power in it.

We did a lot of reading about raw diets, and we had some concerns about bacteria and stuff and decided that it wasn't for us.
People who feed their animals a raw diet really like it though, and say that there has been a lot of improvement in their animals .

We did some reading on the grain free diet to and decided that was the diet for Sadie.
A lot of dogs that have food allergies eat a grain free diet.
A lot of dogs tend to gain weight on food filled with grains.
Grain free food uses fruits and vegetables in place of grains.
dogs are more energetic on a grain free diet.

We decided to try Taste of the Wild, but Sadie likes Evo better so that is what she is eating.
We mix a little dry food with moist food.
( our vet says that " A dog should have some dry food because it is better for their teeth.)
Sadie has been eating a mostly grain free diet for a few weeks now.
She has lost some weight, and has a lot more energy.
Momo has been eating some grain free moist kitten and cat food to, he likes Evo too.
Maxx on the other hand is very set in her ways and prefers to eat her old cat food.

The only problem is that in our area the pet stores that do have it only seem to carry one flavor of it and it is recommended that you feed all three of the flavors, so that your animal gets a more balanced diet.
Sadie doesn't like eating the same food all the time either, so we may have to order it online or at a pet store.

The Return of Wiener Claus

We always know what time of year it is when Sadie's old friend Wiener Claus returns.
Sadie has been so excited because Wiener Claus is back because that means Christmas is near.

Wiener Claus always shows up at our house before Christmas and Santa Paws.
He comes to play with Sadie sometime after Thanksgiving to help her get ready for the arrival of Santa Paws.

If you look at the picture, you can see Momo's foot.
Sadie has been telling him all about Wiener Claus and how he shows up every year.
Sadie also told Momo " That Winer Claus tells Santa Paws if he takes her toys." so Momo has been playing with is own toy and only plays with Sadie's toy when he thinks Wiener Claus isn't looking .
Although Wiener Claus looks different every year, Sadie always knows who he is and looks forward to his arrival.

Our Chips

A little while ago our friend Frankie asked " If the little tag that Momo wears on his collar is a microchip identification tag?"

Yep, thats what it is.
You know already that Momo lived at our local ASPCA before he came to live with us and before he could come home he had to get his man cat surgery and get his microchip put in.
Sadie has one too, when she was a pup she had what she refers to as "her hoo hoo ectomy" and she also got a chip.
But Sadie's chip has migrated and it is no longer on her back anymore.
The migration of microchips doesn't happen very often, so we kinda think of it as another way to identify Sadie if she ever gets lost and can't find her way home.
Along with Sadie's micro chip she also has a lifetime license.
Sadie says " She can drive a car with her license!" so we hide the car keys from her.
But our state offers a lifetime dog license if your dog is chipped or has an identification tattoo and Sadie said " A tattoo would interfere with her natural beauty.", so we opted for the microchip.

The only one in the house that is not microchipped is Maxx.
Maxx is middle aged and not as active as the other two and very set in her ways, which doesn't include going outside.
In fact Maxx spends most of her time up stairs, so there isn't much of a chance for her to get lost anyway.

A Thankful Thanksgiving

Our friend Frankie asked all of his blogger buddies to post about what they are thankful for on Thanksgiving.
So here we go.

Sadie doesn't really have a rescue story, she came to us from a pet store, but what makes this pet store so different is that the owners only get the puppies and kittens from breeders they personally know and about 99% of them are local breeders.
When Sadie was in the store she wasn't even kept in a kennel, she was in a wooden box ( kinda like a whelping pen) that she shared with a little Rat Tearier pup.

When we brought Sadie home she had a little kennel cough and our vet wasn't available at that time, so we took her to his associate, but by the time we where able to get in with our vet Sadie had developed pneumonia.
After we got her to our vet, she had some chest X-rays and about two weeks of antibiotics, and then she was the little dachshund pup that I wanted since I was a little girl.
I have always loved and admired the dachshund breed.
But that doesn't mean Sadie doesn't have things to be thankful for, like her dad and I, being healthy, her grandparents, her grandmar and uncles, her cousin Jack, Momo, Maxx, her blogging buddies, her Wubbas and toy and treats.
Sadie said " What she is most thankful for is a loving family. Oh and that she is going to be eating turkey today!"

Sadie said " she will let Momo tell you about his story, because he is a rescue."

When we met Momo he was in the ASPCA, they told us that all they knew about him was that he was born in a near by town to a mama cat who was a stray herself.
They said an older lady was feeding Mo, his brothers and his mama cat, until she though she should call the ASPCA to come and get them so the kittens could get help.
The ASPCA also told us that they had to put down about 500 cats and kitten, just in our local location, in the month of July.

We were actual there because we were thinking about adopting another kitten, but when we saw Momo we just fell in love with him and knew he would be coming home with us.
We had to wait a couple of days for him come home, because the ASPCA wanted to neutered him before he could come home.

Momo said " He is thankful for his home and loving family, Sadie, that he has toys now, and especially for the old lady that was feeding him and his brothers. She is an exceptional person and thank you for being so kind."

This video was taken went we where talking to the ASPCA lady about taking Momo home.
Happy Thanksgiving Everyone!!
