Wordless Wednesday

Homemade Peanut Butter Treats

The other day I found this web site that has recipes for dog treats. So I copied down one of the recipe and gave it to one of Sadie's grandmas to make.(I don't care to cook much)Yesterday she made them up for Sadie, and Sadie took a sniff then a bite and ran to hide it for later. That means that they have her approval. I chose the peanut butter one because Sadie loves peanut butter so much, but they have others to. I like to feed Sadie and Maxx a more natural diet, and check the ingredients before I buy food or treats for them. But when your able to make the treats yourself you know what the ingredients are in them.

Saturday

After we got to my parents, and Sadie saw Jack, and the not getting a biscuit thing was forgotten about and the playing began.
They played inside and out too.
They played the whole day, until Sadie saw my aunt, who lives just next door to my parents and she hasn't seen her for a couple of weeks. So Sadie had to go see the aunt,(she loves my aunt) while Jack went for a drink and took a rest.

No Treat at the Drive Thru

If you have been following this blog you know we go to my parents house every Saturday, and every week on our way, we stop on the way at a popular fast food drive thru for a drink. They used to always give Sadie a biscuit and now have stopped. When I was a kid I worked at another chain of this restaurant and we always had biscuits for dogs. While we are there in the drive thru Sadie always sits up and tries to look really cute and waits for it .(trying to be extra cute)
I know this is not a standard for the restaurant, but this one always did give her a biscuit. we don't expect it, (but Sadie does)because having worked at the chain I know it is the restaurant's decision, but dogs do remember when thy get treats.(Sadie does anyway)
After we start to leave,(Sadie still trying to be extra cute) she realizes there is no biscuits to be had and snuggles up for a nap until we get to my parent's house where she gets her treat. Sadie is just so spoiled that she expects to get a treat every time we go there and we know it's just a nice gesture and not their policy.

The Crazy Birds

We have what seems to be a growing population of birds gathering around our backyard.(this one flew past Sadie and landed in the neighbor's yard) Sadie never misses a trick, she watches these birds like they are something new to play with, and as they fly by she chases after them. Although most of the yard is fenced in there is only a small wall at the back of the yard to keep her in, and right by that wall is where a big tree is that the birds tend to gather.
Maybe I should just tell her that she is a dachshund which means "badger dog", but though she is a miniature which were bread for rabbits, but then there are a few of them around to!

Please Mr. Mailman

We use to live in a small apartment, that had about maybe five to six feet of grass and brushes, that was called our yard when we go Sadie. So needless to say we spent a lot of time walking her.(so she could burn off some of the puppy energy) On our walks Sadie would meet a lot of people and play with a lot of kids from the neighborhood, but she really like the mailman and would bark at him until he would come over to see her and she wouldn't let him leave until she got her belly rubbed. This went on until we moved, even though we moved just up the street we have a new mailman, and Sadie wants our new mailman to stop and to be her new belly rubbing friend.(she loves to get her belly rubbed) Every time the new mailman comes she sits in the window barking and wagging her tail to get his attention, but he always makes it a quick visit and goes on his way. I know that a lot of dogs don't have a good reputation with the mailman, but Sadie loves most people even the mailman!

Sadie Went Shopping

Sadie is what my husband and I like to refer as a piddle pup,(she gets so happy when she greats people she pees a little) but we like to take her with us everywhere we can anyway, especially to the pet store. We always try to worn people of her problem, but they still like to give her a pet on the head or rub her belly anyway( she can't resist a good belly rub), witch leads to a puddle after.(we know where all the cleaning stations are in the pet stores if you know what I mean)but we think it is good for her to socialize with other people and dogs. We were quite pleased to find that the other day, that Sadie might be learning how to control this problem though. We took her to a locale pet store this week, she played with some people and she even made a new dogie friend, and there were no puddles. We were so pleased that we didn't have to clean any piddle, that Sadie got to pick out a new toy and some new treats.(she gets a toy every time anyway)

After the Bike Ride

When Jack's dad gets back from his motorcycle ride, Jack has to sniff the bike and his dad all over to see where they have been. Then its back in the house to let Brandy know that dad is home. Brandy doesn't like the motorcycle much, (he says it to load) so its up to Jack(since he likes the bike) to hang out with his dad and have some alone time when his dad works on it or washes it. Jack loves spending time with his dad, so after he sits up and does a little dance so him and Brandy get a treat.

Jack is a Biker Dude

Jack is a biker dog, well his dad is the true bike rider, but Jack likes the sound of the motorcycle. He loves to hear the roar of the bike in the distance as it gets closer, because to him that means his dad is home from his bike ride. With the nice weather we've been having my brother takes his bike out every chance he gets and that means that Jack always listens when he hears a motorcycle coming down the street to see if its his dad he, runs to take a look out the window and starts to wine with excitement. Sadie on the other hand doesn't care much for the bike, but Jack loves it as the pictures show. He never rides the bike, but to him its just as fun to sit on it and in his mind he's a "biker dog".

Our friends over at WVDOG are having a good time with some fundraising events, and would like some suggestion on new fundraisers. I mentioned them in a previous post "A Dog Park in Wilkes-barre". They are a group of like mined dog owners, who are working very hard at trying to get a dog park in the area of Wilkes-Barre PA. All of their efforts go into the building and maintenance of the dog park. So if you have any ideas please head on over to sign their guest book and give them your input and ideas.

Sadie has a New Passion

About a week ago we got a new TV,( because the other one broke) and Sadie has developed a new passion for it. She watched us as we connected all the cables and set it up (like she is making sure we do it right) and then settled down to watch some TV. Every morning when her daddy gets up, she cuddles up to watch some TV with him before he goes to work. I know the experts say dogs can only see certain colors and dachshunds are sent hounds anyway, but It seems like Sadie is really watching TV, maybe its that its HD and the picture is clearer, or maybe its just she wants to spend time with her daddy, but she seems to watch TV a lot more than she used to.

The Cupboard Game

Maxx loves to play this game we call it the cupboard game. (and many other games too) She will hide out in a cupboard for a while waiting and watching for you to walk by, then when you lest expect it she pounces out at you,(she tries to scare you) Maxx thinks this is so funny she does it to everybody that walks by, even Sadie. when she plays this game you can almost see the smile, and hear the giggles as she waits.

A Dog Park in Wilkes-Barre PA

The other day we met these people from the Wyoming Valley Dog Owners Group. This group of volunteers are dedicated to putting a dog park in the Wilkes-Barre area, were your dogs can be with out a leash and socialize with other dogs and dog owners. They even plan to have education, recreation, and even have dog trainers.( I know Sadie is going to love this park )
When we first got Sadie we lived in an apartment which didn't have much of a yard,(a place like this would have been great) so I know how important this park will be to the dog owning community. We used to Take her for many walks through out the day, even though she has a Yard now it will be so good for her to be able to socialize with more dogs and people.(dogs really need to have other doggy friends) I know Sadie and I look forward to this park when it is built, and we show our support. Sadie even wants a WVDOG shirt of her own all proceeds go to support the park. Aren't they great people? Sadie can't wait to give then a lick and a paws up.

Jack Came for a SleepOver

Jack's dad went away for the weekend, so when we went to my parent's house on Saturday Jack come for a sleepover.
After playing together all day on Saturday I thought the dogs would be pretty tired and go to sleep early, but they still played quite a bit especially Jack. He was away from his usual routine and was full of energy.
He played with Sadie's toys for a while, (while Sadie napped) And even played while with Maxx after she taunted him to join in a of you chase me and I'll chase you.(Sadie and Maxx play this game a lot) I think Jack did really well considering he doesn't live with a cat. So then on Sunday we took the dog to the backyard to play Jack loves him some ball. While Sadie visited with her friends next store.

Bath Time

Sadie absolutely hates to get a bath, from time she was just a pup. (she hates it even when you say the word) She is always trying to find a quick way to escape, and not get a bath. But after all the playing she likes to take some time to lay in the sun (usually in the dirt) and then she starts to smell like a foot. (she doesn't mind it I guess) After she gets in the tub and figures out she can't escape and she has to take her bath, she starts to shake until its over. ( that's when I get wet to) Sadie mutters through this just like every dog has to. ( don't most dog hate to get a bath) But once the shampoo goes on and I lather her up (she likes this part) its half over. I try to keep bath time short, because I know she hates it so, and I get pretty wet a lot of the time too. But when its over she likes it when I wrap her up in a towel and hold her until she forgets all about the bath she just had, until the next time. ( the word bath is a bad word to say around here)

Who's house

I got this little foam house about a year a go, I thought it would be a cute little place for Sadie to go and have a nap in the day time. But as time went on she has become quite the lap dog.(as I'm posting this she is sleeping in the chair with me)When Sadie was still using the house, Maxx would get in it and have a little cat nap,(when it was empty) and some times they both would be in the house together. So now that Sadie sleep in a chair with her humans, Maxx has claimed the house for herself. She goes in it and has a little nap, or she carries one of her cat toys in the house to play with and has some time to herself . It's nice to see Maxx enjoy the house even though Sadie got board with it!

Our Girl Boo

This is our girl Boo(named boo because she is so white) lives with my aunt and being close to my aunts I have become close to Boo as well. Sadie isn't quite sure what to think of Boo because she is so big compared to Sadie and she is also deaf. ( she is trained to respond to hand signals) Boo lives quite a normal life, and I say that because while I was looking for some information for this post I found a lot of myths and belief (about white boxers and white dogs) that's are not true. Just because a boxer pup is white doesn't mean that it will be deaf or unhealthy. (Boo is hard of hearing but very healthy) The only reason she is white is for the same reason you may have blond or brown hair. In Boo's case she was born hard of hearing or deaf, (her vet says deaf)so she doesn't know she is different and has had a happy life.

While I was gathering so information on white boxers, I come across some pretty harsh info like some breeders wold discard white boxer puppies because they are believed to be mean ,not true(Boo is very loving) they have health problems (a small percent may be deaf ) or that they can't be trained. (Boo is a very well trained with hand signs) and has a lot of personalty and isn't that what you would want in any dog? I found this link on myths and fact about white boxers from the Boxer Rescue Site.

Saturday Adventures with Mr Chippy

This Saturday was the 4th (I hope everyone had a good time) so our visit at my parent was also our 4 of July celebration, with the usual hot dog and hamburgers, Sadie had her own company though. Over the past few months Sadie has made a few new Friends. It started with a one chipmunk and now has grown to what seems to be a family of chippies. My parent don't have a fence around their yard, so Sadie and Jack have to stay on their leashes, and when Sadie is outside the chippies all seem to play a game with her. The chippies, it seems will all take turns running a round Sadie, then one by one they will all try to see how close they can get to her. Sometimes Sadie really get involved in the game to by chasing them , but I try to keep some distance between the chipmunks and her because I don't want the chippies to get hurt and I don't know if the chipmunks carry any diseases (they do live out side with no one to take care of them) .Sadie is up on all of her shots and even gets the vaccine for lime disease (you never know where a tick could be hiding) ,but prevention is the best medicine.

Day without Sadie

Yesterday my cousin graduated from McCann's school of business( con grads) and I left Sadie with my mother in law(who she loves). Sadie isn't left alone much, I take her with me every where I can , and when I can't take her, she usually stays with family (like my mother in law) till we get back. What makes this time so different was that due to travel time and other reasons I was gone for quite some time (about 5 hours)and I had never spent that much time away from her. Even though she was with someone she stays with all the time she still knew I was gone longer then normal, so she spent some time running around looking for me and wining a bit. Sadie loves spending time with my mother in law and there is usually no problem, but I guess this time was just to long. So knowing I would be away my husband called from work to check on her. When Sadie herd his voice(he was on speaker phone)she perked up, but couldn't figure out why she could hear him but couldn't see him, she calmed down after hearing from him and took a nap till I got back, but it was a long time for me to. I guess the bonds we build with our animal are more then some people think.(I missed her very much too) Maxx on the other hand doesn't seem to mind so much, she takes her cat naps and amuses herself till I get back then she comes to get her loves. I know Sadie has separation issues, but then again so do I.

Sadie's Light Toy

Don't you just love it when you get that look. That look that's so intense, so focused. My brother(Jack and Brandy's owner and yes they got one to) just got Sadie a new toy this week. A little bone that is a laser toy. When you shine the light on the floor she goes crazy chasing it all over the house. Maxx even loves it, she come jumping around the corner to catch it, then she runs around with Sadie trying to catch it. Its so fun to watch them while they play and get a lot of exercise to.
